Written and developed by the Safe and Sound Cities - Naga team, this guidebook encapsulates the lessons learned from the Safe and Sound Cities initiative in Naga. The Safe and Sound Cities Programme (S²Cities) is an initiative that engages local governments, institutions, the private sector, community actors, and young people to create platforms for meaningful youth engagement in addressing safety and inclusivity challenges.
In Naga, an independent component city in the Bicol Region of the Philippines, children and youth make up nearly 55% of the city’s total population. With support from WeSolve Foundation, Move As One Coalition, Tarabangan Kontra-COVID, and Metro Naga Active Transport Community, the program aims to empower young individuals to take action, equipping them with the tools to develop innovative solutions to pressing issues. Ultimately, the goal is to create a hometown that is safer, more inclusive, and more secure.
Key highlights:
Creating inclusive spaces for youth engagement
Identifying community issues and solutions by providing platforms for various sectors
Capacitating youth with the tools for ideation and implementation
WeSolve Foundation is the local implementation partner for the Safe and Sound Cities Programme in partnership with the Naga City Youth Development Office and the Local Government of Naga.
The Safe and Sound Cities Programme is proudly led by Global Infrastructure Basel (GIB) in partnership with the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives – Southeast Asia (ICLEI SEAS) and hosted by the Swiss Philanthropy Foundation, with support from Fondation Botnar.
